Since Venezuela is predominanty a Catholic country, they observe Holy Week which falls between Palm Sunday and Easter. Many Venezuelan citizens will spend this week on a vacation away at a beach or other popular destination.

I think the Holy Week is celebrated all round the globe...the country does not have to be predominantly catholic. So why do Venezuelans prefer to go on holiday. Is it the case that there are not many catholics there for that matter?

Holy Week is a christian/catholic feast celebrated in mostly in christian countries. No? Or where si Ramadan celebrated? Anyway, Holy Week coincides with the US spring break in schools and colleges, companies give vacations during these days and whole countries shut down to go the the beach. Happens everywhere. Just one big party, the religious symbolism fades away... Best!

You do not have to mock on the matter pale_o from around the globe or wherever you are..Experience Venezuela's colourful Easter week, as Judas effigies burn and the painful Passion of Christ is re-enacted. Holy Wednesday is the day when various religious ceremonies and celebrations take place, most importantly the adoration of the sacred image of the Nazarene.

Participants often come to pay homage and give thanks for little miracles and fulfilled prayers throughout the year. Many of these dress in purple tunics and some of them go so far in their adoration that they take up the burdens of their patron and re-enact His way to the cross!

You made me read my post all over to ascertain your claims Jake. My country is multi-religious but still the Holy Week is celebrated because I think it is an event in the Catholic Church's calendar.

Venezuela holy week is celebrated i think the way as the other country celebrates the holiday in the same manner. Some gather together and enjoy the beaches some goes to a quite place like a retreat house to meditate and try to connect with God. In our place we do sharing stuffs with people as a holy seek annual promise. We this to atleast help and at the same time reach out with those who are needy.

That is nice Olivia. Sharing and giving to those who needs help and who are less fortunate is the best way to celebrate the holy week. We should kneel down and pray and try to really connect with God during this time of the year. As of me, I go to church during this time and take note, without any absence. This is some sort of promise that I make during holy week.

Yeah, I have to agree on that also. There are really lots of good stuffs to do and to try during this time of the year. In our place, we do share some of our stuffs to those people who are in need. I love to know how Holy week was celebrated in some other country, like in Venezuela. Thanks a lot people and hope to hear from all of you soon.
